It's spring and we are having a blizard like snow stome, in Kansas! If this was one of the northern states a bit closer to canada It probably wouldn't even be worth mentioning but again this is Kansas! We had a very small amount of snow over the winter and then at the begining of spring we are under a blizard advisory and could end up with a foot of snow.
It is pretty to look at. The flakes are quarter size or bigger and it's thick. Thick enough that visability is getting to be a problem, just out the front window. I had to go out in it early this morning to help JT jumpstart his van. He doesn't get out of working even though damn near everything is closed today. His van fails to start anytime it gets cold. It's a company van and they don't care enough to fix it right. Our ven had three inches or ice on the windshield and snow on top of that. We had to thaw it all and chip it off so we could move our van to his to jump it. The snow was probably 4 -6 inches deep at that point. It was wierd walking on top of it. We would leave footprints about a half inch deep and by the time we were done they were filled and covered with snow. I've got a couple of drifts in the back yard that are easily a foot deep alredy. I had to walk through one to get bread from the garage. Yeah great planning on my part.
Oddly enough none of my kids have the slightest interest in going out in the snow. I made sure all the boots, gloves, hats aand even snow pants were found and not one of them wants to go out. A year ago they were dragging me out the door to go sledding every time a flake hit. this year next to no interest. Very odd.
The way it's coming down right now I wouldn't be suprised if we get more than a foot. I don't think I'll be going anywhere for many days. Gives me an excuse to bake and read more. Glad we rented like 13 movies this week. It keeps the kids happy.

Where is the dewey decimal system???
Our libraries no longer use the dewey decimal system or paper card cataloges. I must be old because I miss it. I wasn't happy when they changed from the card cataloge to computers (a long time ago) but I adjusted quickly. It was the same system just inside a computer. In a way it was easier because you could cross reference from title, author and subject. You could not do that with the paper card file. I don't think I will get used to the lack of the dewey decimal system though. It was so simple to follow and find things. You just started at the begining, followed the guide numbers and kept going until you found your section. There were two categories fiction and non fiction. Our libraries have kept the decimal sysytem for non fiction but has done away with it for fiction. Fiction now has about a dozen different subcatagories and they are all over the place. Science fiction, adult fiction, young reader fiction, mystery, fiction and so on. Each section is alphabetized. Now I have to look in the computer just to figure out which section the book I want is under and then I have to figure out where that section in the library is (because it's different t each one)and then I have to go alphabetically by author. It just seems like so much more work to do it this way.
Frankly the librarians are no help. They don't seem to know or understand the system either. I recently had trouble finding a book the computer said was in but it wasn't on the shelf. I explained this to the librarian and asked if they had a new section because there was a note in the computer that it was new. Instead of answering me he looked in the computer, walked to the back room, came out said it should be on the shelf, walked me to the shelf and spent a couple minutes staring before he agreed it wasn't there. Then he randomly wandered other shelves and the paperbacks before going back to the computer, looking it up again and saying oh it's new it will be on the new shelf right over there (as he pointed). Trully the guy seemed like an idiot. He could have told me that if he had listened to and answered my question in the first place. I don't usally deal with the librarians ecxept at check out so I don't know if this is typical or not, I hope it isn't.
If I wanted this kind of random guessing game and confusion I'd go to McDonalds or Walmart. The library is suppose to be comfortable and familar. Maybe I'm just getting old.
